Keep Running the Floor.
Here's a taste of life advice, told and explained in a unique way.
My Southstreet Seaport, NYC Model Abercrombie and Fitch Managers would always remind and bark at me to "Run the Floor!"
Perhaps this is a retail trick and requirement for clothing store, fashion workers. Our Downtown FI-DI retail clothing store was a legit, large 2 story structure. There were both male and female clothing sections. Our A&F store was happily bipartisan for the sexes.
Hmm, so "Run the Floor". What does this mean? It means keep going. It means keep moving. It means keep your head and your eyes up. Customers will see you. You will see problem areas of the store to fix, tidy, and work on. When you RUN THE FLOOR, you gaze at all that is happening around you. Part of the customer experience for Abercrombie & Fitch patrons is to enjoy the human, attractive, "EYE CANDY" working there. The loud thumping music, attractive youthful beauties, and powerful aromas are all a part of the A&F Experience.
This attractive visual concept is by no means, innovative. For example, why do people go to the HOOTERS Restaurant? It's because of the hot waitresses, and not just because of the beer and sports. Why do people go to ART MUSEUMS? It is because they want to view Beautiful ART. Why do people visit majestic State Parks, such as Yellowstone, Big Bend, and the Grand Canyon? It is because people are drawn to unique, and eye pleasing attractions.
Moving forward. How else can we interpret the phrase, "RUN THE FLOOR" to positivism in our daily lives? RUN THE FLOOR could also mean, don't give up. Keep Working, Keep Living, Keep Fighting! As you are aware, life is not a cakewalk. Life is a journey of ups, downs, challenges, glories, and failures. Our advice today is to "RUN THE FLOOR" and keep going.
Here is another real life example in which the mantra, "RUN THE FLOOR" has helped me. As a single person on the scout for pretty girls, I've learned to keep it fresh, and keep it moving. There are some bars, parties, veues, etc, where the vibe is just not clicking. Maybe you've already met everyone at a particular party. Maybe you've chosen to be a dressed-up pink shirt wearing yuppie, and are attending a GOTH event? Perhaps you are at social gathering, where all of the patrons are engaged, uptight, nosy, judgemental and married. Single people should avoid these judgmental type events. For some reason, I've noticed married people and single people don't intermix smoothly. Why is that? Are the lifestyles that different? Personally, I can be versatile and hang out with whomever.
If life is not clicking, just KEEP RUNNING THE FLOOR, until it does.
There were so many late nights in which I was cruising Manhattan solo on a Friday night, looking for love, and striking out. It helps Bars up there, are open in NYC until 4 am. Thus added Game time. In the face of deterrence, I just kept running the floor, and moving from 1 different city venue to the next. Inevitably and often, if I simply kept going, I would eventually locate a romantic interest, and score. The cab ride from Downtown NYC to my apartment in Midtown West was $20 bucks. For some reason the LOWER EAST SIDE, (LES) and I got along well. I'd somehow meander downtown to Ludlow street, and hit up either Max Fish, the Dark Room, or Piano's and meet a lovely lady, willingly eager to go home with me. The downstairs Ludlow bartender would often comp me, the 1st beer on the house. Why? To this day, I'm gratefully unsure. I wish Southern girls were more care-free, promiscuous, fun, and liberal. Oh well...
So, My fellow Sample Spectrum readers, if life has got you in a bind, remember to KEEP RUNNING the FLOOR, KEEP YOUR HEAD UP, KEEP WORKING, and better times will arrive.
