The Downside of Freedom
Is our democratic, freedom oriented culture and society, welcoming? Yes, for sure it is! Freedom as an entity itself is a wonderful thing! Unfortunately there are still citizens of this globe, living in depressed countries with authoritarian, and uncivilized regimes going on. The pros to freedom are independent choices and non judgmental living. Coupled with the ability to work and live almost anywhere. The USA has 50 states, of which I still have yet to visit half of them. Personally, I need to get out and travel more, but we shall save my abyssal, puny travel record for another day.
So, What are the Downsides to Freedom?
The major downside to freedom is lack of use. If you don't use a particular right, or freedom, it can possibly backfire against you. Think of muscles that atrophy due to lack of use. The sedentary, and conservative life can become disadvantageous. People stuck and burrowed into 1 specific job, and place of residence, may be hindering their overall value and quality of life.
For example, Let's say you are an excellent residential tenant. You live calm, and are timely with your bill paying. What happens next? Your landlord instead of lowering your rent, will often try to use you and raise your rent. If one, does not use their freedom, then their life expenses will be heightened. An intelligent tenant would not put up with a rent hike. In this situation, the subject tenant should consider researching new areas to move, live and work. Citizens unwilling to risk movement and change are sometimes financially penalized for it.
Can freedom be too expansive for some people to handle? Yes, it can. Freedom's vastness can be overwhelming. There are people in this world, whom do not enjoy making choices. There are people whom prefer direction and to be told what to do. Some people could never be their own boss. They do not possess the inner drive or desire. For example, people who enter the military ranks, are forced to enjoy structure. When military vets leave this dutiful structured life, often freedom's vastness and idle time, lends itself to trouble. Everyone always feels sorry for the homeless vet on the street corner, begging for money on a hot day. I do, and detest their pain. Another example is in the teaching profession. Teachers have caring, genuine, thoughtful souls. Teachers must also learn to accept the structure of the school period day. Teachers do not have the ability to simply call it a half day. Teachers, despite their skill and talent, are often stuck on the same pay scale. The teaching profession is a semi-socialistic profession. On a side-note, I think award winning teachers should be paid more for their accomplishments. This monetary incentive would give teachers a reason to become even better at their craft.
Simply put, is it possible that FREEDOM, can be too much for an individual human to handle?
There are people with personality types, that will not allow them to reach out and become entrepreneurs. This self proving gusto is just not within their DNA. Most of society does not truly USE their freedom. A majority of society and people are like sheep. They glue themselves to a safe, secure, salary position. They become overly entrenched upon 1 city. They follow the masses and too readily accept the 9 to 5 work grind, and traffic that follows.
The Downside of Freedom is when you don't actually breathe it in and use it, it has the potential to harm you. Why? Because there are brave people out there taking advantage of freedom daily. How? There are people moving to lesser established cities buying 2008 Foreclosure recession homes and properties for 25 to 50 thousand dollars. Not for a car, but a full Lot, land and House. These brave souls are seizing opportunity! They are willing to move their families and lives. Perhaps these people have versatile work skills and can adapt to a new city, and workplace economy. This sounds cliche, but these pioneering modern day explorers are willing to THINK & LIVE outside the box. Could you, our Sample Spectrum reader, uproot and perform a life change like this? Or are you currently living a self-burrowed life?
The goal and moral for this specific entry only, is to actually USE your freedoms in life. If not, you may soon feel the prickly thorns of a sedentary lifestyle.
